How much does stair cladding cost?

Stair cladding is priced by the piece, not by the staircase, so the total cost of a kit depends entirely on what your flight is made of: how many straight steps it has, whether there’s a bullnose at the bottom, whether it turns (a winder), and how it finishes at the top. This guide breaks down our current component prices and works through four real staircase configurations so you can see exactly how the numbers add up.
All prices below include VAT and were checked directly against the FloorTrim UK store on 24 September 2026. They’re subject to change — always confirm the live total in the stair configurator before ordering, since that builds your exact basket from current prices.
What decides the price
- Number of straight steps. These are supplied in 4-step packs (QUATTRO) with any remainder made up from single-step sets (UNO) — buying in fours is the more efficient way to cover a flight.
- Bullnose steps. Most flights need one bullnose tread, usually at the bottom. The product page notes some layouts may need two.
- Winders (turns). A standard 90° turn always needs two boards together — a 1360 mm and a 1200 mm winder tread — each of which can be cut diagonally into two individual winder treads. Any non-standard turn geometry isn’t priced online; it’s flagged for an “Ask an Expert” quote.
- Landings. Landing boards come in fixed widths — Wide Landing Boards 380 mm deep (packs of two) and Narrow Landing Boards 170 mm deep — and are cut to suit on site. The combination depends on your actual landing depth, plus one grooved stair nose per landing.
- The finish at the top of the stairs. Finish A (flush to the existing floor) adds one Stair Nose Profile, optionally with a 4 mm spacer. Finish B (landing boards continuing) adds a full landing kit, optionally with a Floor Transition Profile where the boards meet the upper floor.

Worked example 1 — a straight flight, 13 steps
13 straight steps, one bullnose at the bottom, finishing flush to the upper floor (Finish A).

Worked example 2 — a flight with a standard 90° winder
8 straight steps split either side of a quarter turn, one bullnose at the bottom, finishing flush at the top (Finish A). The turn uses the standard “90°, three 30° steps” winder geometry.

If your turn isn’t a standard 90° with three 30° steps, the configurator won’t price it automatically — get in touch with a photo and basic measurements and it’ll be quoted separately.
Worked example 3 — a flight finishing onto a landing
8 straight steps, one bullnose at the bottom, finishing onto a 90 cm deep landing at the top (Finish B) instead of meeting the floor flush.

Landing boards are supplied in 1000 mm lengths and cut on site to suit the actual width of your staircase, so you only need to measure and enter the landing depth — the configurator works out the combination of wide and narrow boards, which are then cut to suit on site. Add a Floor Transition Profile (from £9.96) if the landing boards meet the upper floor and you want a defined edge there.
Worked example 4 — a mixed staircase (straight, winder and a mid-flight landing)
Not every flight is one simple shape. This combination — one bullnose, one straight step, a standard winder turn, a 90 cm mid-flight landing, and a flush Finish A at the top — was built and checked directly in the store’s basket on 24 September 2026.

Adding a 4 mm MDF spacer under the Finish A stair nose (for extra height) brings this basket to £524.04.
Delivery
Delivery isn’t included in the product prices above — it’s calculated automatically at checkout from the total weight of everything in your basket. The standard tariff is £11.00 for a parcel up to 20 kg, then an extra £0.50 for every additional kg (or part of a kg) above that, with no upper weight limit. Orders are normally prepared and made ready for dispatch within 3–5 working days; once handed over to the courier, the delivery time depends on the courier and your delivery address.
A complete staircase kit — several tread-and-riser sets, landing boards and stair nose profiles — is bulky, so most full packages will weigh in above the 20 kg threshold. Rather than estimate a figure here, build your exact kit in the stair configurator, add it to your basket, and the weight-based delivery charge will be calculated automatically before you pay.
